Duke Nukem DS and PSP Game Forced to Get New Name

A shift of ownership for the Duke Nukem trade name has resulted in some hurried rebranding for the upcoming hand-held games.

Gearbox's acquirement of the Duke Nukem IP was just the lifeline the interminable-deferred Duke Nukem Always required. It wasn't such good news for Frontline Studio's DS and PSP game, Duke Nukem: Critical Whole sle, even so, atomic number 3 the studio's deal to use the Duke Nukem brand seems to birth come to an abrupt cease.

In its quarterly newsletter, Frontline said that Critical Mass was still advent out, but information technology wasn't going to be a Duke Nukem game anymore. Frontline has renamed the unfit, Extraction Place: Alien Gunfight, and swapped Duke out for a new protagonist past the name of Cam Nash. Alien Shootout is set in 2012, and as the name suggests, revolves around shot aliens. Apparently Nash had long harbored dreams of being an action hero, so the alien encroachment and the subsequent collapse of bon ton really came as quite a welcome occurrence.

The rebranding leave obviously present problems for Frontline, non least of which is the fact that it in real time has to try and sell a firebrand new IP, rather than a game that had some mar realization behind IT. It doesn't help that the rebranding looks to undergo been through in a hurry, as entirely the screenshots in the newssheet withal feature Duke Nukem. It seems pretty likely that Origin Point is going to get missed past much of masses, although presumably, Frontline will have adjusted its gross revenue projections to allow for that.

Announced back in 2008, Critical Mass was to be the first part of a Duke Nukem trilogy, with other episodes, highborn Chain Reaction and Proving Grounds, to surveil. 3D Realms, the original, and now defunct, developer of DNF, was set to publish the mettlesome, using it as an opportunity to relaunch its Apogee marque, which had dead into disuse in the nineties.

Extraction Point: Stranger Shootout wish be released as a digital download for PSP tardive this year, and as a download on the 3DS in the second base quarter of 2011.
